On Thursday December 19th, a group of volunteers visited. Occasional snow showers punctuated the mostly sunny day.
We saw deer, hare, squirrel, and weasel tracks. The picture above shows a fresh deer bed. The deer had curled up here and melted the light dusting of snow.
We constructed primitive sunglasses from birch tree bark. To our surprise, the glasses worked well.
Near the end of the day we sighted an elk herd after crossing their tracks in the thick forest. They foraged and loafed in the last pockets of sun following a light snow squall.
Low clouds shrouded the Swan Range most of the day. We caught only hints of the peaks until the clouds finally lifted.
